Back on the road again!

Today Mam had an appointment with her solicitor in Newcastle, so I gee'd myself up and went along.

After we'd finished our business, we decided to have a little walk along the Quayside.  The weather was gorgeous for the time of year,  although the wind along the river was a little chilly. As I haven't been very active for the past few days, it was good to let the wind blow the cobwebs away a little!

First we came to the Sage. Don't forget to click on the picture, they look much better when they're bigger!

Affectionately known to some of us as "The Slug"!  I personally can't stand the outside of the building but the inside is lovely. Lots of concerts, events etc. are held there, it's a very prestigious building.

A little further along, we came to the Milennium bridge, also known as the Gateshead eye. Now I do like this, first of all it's pedestrians only, so no fumes etc. Secondly the bridge opens for river traffic and it looks like it "winks" (although very slowly of course) and today we were there when it opened and closed for a dredger, I think. It was the first time we'd seen it...cool!

First it was closed......

Then it opened........

Then it closed again, how cool is that, or am I just easily pleased??

A Little further along, we came to, well you can see what it is!

This used to do what it says on the building many, many years ago, but in recent years it has become quite a famous Art Gallery. It recently hosted the Turner Prize. Now I'm not an art buff, I just don't get most of it, but I do love the building.

All of the above are on the Gateshead side of the river Tyne (except for the bridge, which is attached at both ends of course!!) and I took the pictures from the Newcastle side.

So, on we meandered in the February sunshine. We found there was lots to see along the river. I've written down in my notebook some places we want to explore when it gets warmer. Isn't it amazing how many interesting things you can find on your own doorstep, so to speak?

Bearing in mind that Mam is still not 100% recovered and I wasn't 100% either, we wandered on just a little more, past a couple of interesting little bits and pieces

Until we came to Ouseburn

Then we got the bus back into Newcastle, the Metro to South Shields for a late lunch, a swift troll around some charity shops, then the bus back home.

Isn't Free Transport luvverly!!

    1. Yes it is bits of metal, Chris. Unfortunately I wasn't as on the ball as I usually am, so I can't tell you much about it but when we go back, I'll find out more.
